The Ultimate Guide to Lash Lifts

April 8, 20265 min read

Everything you need to know about lash lifts, what to expect, how long they last, and why they're the low-maintenance beauty treatment you've been looking for.

If you've ever wished your natural lashes looked longer, curlier, and more defined, without the daily faff of mascara or the upkeep of extensions, a lash lift is likely the treatment you've been waiting for. It's become one of the most requested services at the studio, and for good reason: the results are natural, the maintenance is minimal, and the lift lasts for weeks.

What Is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls your natural lashes upward from the root. Rather than adding extensions, it works with what you already have, using a gentle lifting solution and a silicone shield to shape the lashes into a soft, upward curl. Most clients also opt to add a lash tint at the same time, which deepens the colour for a mascara-like effect that lasts the life of the lift.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

A lash lift takes around 45 to 60 minutes. You'll lie back with your eyes closed throughout, it's one of my most relaxing treatments, and plenty of clients doze off. The process involves four steps:

  • Cleansing the lashes of any oils, makeup, or residue
  • Shaping the lashes over a silicone shield sized for your eye shape
  • Applying a lifting lotion followed by a setting lotion
  • Optional tint, followed by a nourishing lash serum

How Long Does a Lash Lift Last?

Most lash lifts last between 6 and 8 weeks, roughly one full lash growth cycle. As your lashes naturally shed and new ones grow in, the lift will gradually soften. You can rebook any time from 6 weeks onward.

Aftercare Essentials

The first 24 hours are the most important. Keep lashes dry, avoid steam (including hot showers and saunas), and skip mascara. After that, you're free to go about your routine, though a few small habits will extend the life of your lift:

  • Avoid oil-based cleansers and makeup removers near the lash line
  • Don't rub your eyes or sleep face-down
  • Use a lash serum daily to keep lashes healthy between treatments
  • Brush lashes gently each morning with a clean spoolie

Is a Lash Lift Right for You?

Lash lifts suit almost everyone. They're especially popular with anyone who wants a more natural look than lash extensions, travellers who don't want upkeep on the road, brides and bridesmaids in the weeks before a wedding, and anyone who'd simply love to wake up with ready-to-go lashes. If your natural lashes are very short or sparse, I'll talk you through whether a lift or extensions will give you the look you're after during your consultation.
